1. What inspired you to create Dop?
After spending more than a decade as a director/producer, I witnessed first-hand the mobile content boom and the challenge of getting that perfect shot from a smartphone, without using absurd rigging, tripods, duct tape, etc. I saw an opportunity to fix a problem and make life easier for content creators and consumers. dop™ was born from the fundamental need for a single gadget to provide a quick and seamless way to turn your phone into a hands-free device.
2. Can you tell us about the brand mission?
Our mission with dop™ is to provide a simple solution to make your smart device hands- and frustration-free throughout your day. There are thousands of car phone mounts, but we use our devices everywhere we go— in the bathroom, the kitchen, at work, at the gym, making TikToks at a random Starbucks…just to name a few. You can take dop™ with you, twist it on to a ton of surfaces, twist it off, throw it in your bag, and move on with your day. I mean, we’re a phone mount brand— we’re not saving the world, but we will save you from cracking your phone screen while trying to get the perfect selfie angle.
3. What’s your best beauty tip?
Lighting! I’ve had the opportunity to direct A-list actors, supermodels, business tycoons and everyday people, and one thing remains consistent for all of them… lighting. is. everything! Invest in great lighting for your bathroom, or wherever you put on your makeup. It’s worth it to see yourself in the best light every morning when you wake up. You can also walk out into the world with more confidence knowing your makeup is on point, or that you found and plucked that weird eyebrow hair that grows longer than the rest before anyone else saw it.
4. What beauty essentials do you carry with you on a daily basis?
Here in Boulder, CO, where dop™ is based, we have a local shop called Rebecca’s Herbal Apothecary. Rebecca makes a Chamomile Calendula lip balm that is the best lip balm I’ve ever tried. Its base ingredients are organic olive oil and local beeswax. I buy in bulk because I don’t know how I’d react if I ran out while traveling. It would not be good.
5. What does beauty mean to you?
When it comes to the surface, I find beauty in symmetry, proportions, diversity, and design. But when it comes to the “meaning of beauty” I believe real beauty is alive, unseen but felt. There is a radiance that emanates from something that is truly beautiful, be it a thing, person, moment, or message. I know it’s real beauty when I feel it, not when I see it.
6. What is your morning and evening beauty routine?
I’m easy. Acure facewash. Acure face lotion. Lip balm. Repeat in the evening.
7. What’s next for Dop?
dop™ is a brand under our company, AYLO. It’s our first product launch because it’s extremely useful and relevant. At AYLO, the bigger mission is an enlightenment of the beauty routine through lighting and technology thus far unseen in the industry. So keep your eyes peeled for what’s next.
